How to Jump-Start Your Vehicle Safely

Even if you are very thorough in maintaining your vehicle, there will probably come a time when your vehicle will not start, usually because the battery is dead. If your vehicle is stranded, you will need to have your vehicle jump-started by another vehicle.

As a conscientious owner, you undoubtedly have jumper cables in your vehicle. However, do you know the proper methods for jump-starting the vehicle? The first order of business is to align the vehicles close together and turn off both engines. Firstly, attach the positive jumper cable to the positive terminal post of the bad battery and the other end to the positive terminal post of the good battery. Then, attach the negative jumper cable to the negative terminal post of the good battery and the other end to a metal section of the vehicle. Start the good vehicle first. Finally, start the dead vehicle in a few minutes.

To determine the condition of your battery, bring your vehicle in to our service center here at Volvo Cars Edinburg in Edinburg, TX, and we will check the battery for you and provide any other auto service you need.
